Jabal Shems provides authentic accommodation in tents and bungalows to experience a traditional Bedouin camp. Both accommodation types are fitted with modern amenities and include air conditioning as well as views of the mountain.

Tents are decorated in typical Arabian style, while bungalows have a seating area with chairs and dining table. Both have a private bathroom fitted with a shower and free toiletries.

It is possible to enjoy traditional Omani cuisine and local specialities at the buffet restaurant. Staff can also help and advice the best hiking trails around the famous Al Ḩamra Canyon and the surrounding desert.

Very nice spot in the mountain to be confortable before going on local hikes.

Cute little tents in a hood location with a nice sunset view on the mountain. Close to the balcony walk. Comfortable rooms and breakfast and diner are included with buffet options.

Well appointed resort in the mountains.

Great staff, very helpful. I've got a free upgrade to a great chalet. Room was rustic, but comfortable. The resort is well integrated in the environment, great job. Very cozy restaurant.

Not cheap. The evening buffet could be better especially when you look at the rates.

We greatly enojyed our stay at Sama Heights thanks to the staff and nice atmosphere of the resort.

Great location to go around in Djebel Shams; staff very friendly, welcoming and courteous; nice room and outdoor bench with a rustical touch; tasty meals in a comfortable atmosphere.

Stunning mountain location

The location is stunning and the staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious, clean and well equipped. We stayed here to do the Balcony walk and that worked very well. Some of the previous reviews mention poor quality food - the food isn’t really fancy but it was all tasty and fresh. All the food has to be driven up winding steep roads for several hours so the variety isn’t going to be the same as you may get at hotels in more accessible locations.

Beautiful outdoor space, comfortable modern rooms

Amazing spot! Comfortable, clean room. Beautiful rock lookout to watch the sunset. Pretty good buffet for breakfast and dinner. Nice views, decor and lighting in the outdoors property.

Some things are still under construction (like the spa, new tent spaces etc) so the first impression of the camp is that it is not complete. This does not take away from the experience though unless you were hoping for a spa!

What was the highlight of Sama Heights Resort

Charming and comfortable cabanas in a magnificently remote and rocky place

The location is beautiful. In a wide open coll near the Balcony walk. Exposed limestone everywhere. The buildings are sympathetic to the landscape; local rock is used wherever possible for furniture, paths, walls etc.. Clever lighting, fountains and fire pits make it very atmospheric especially in the evening. The food wasn't fussy but generous and we enjoyed it. The staff were, without exception, lovely. We were upgraded to a deluxe room and the 4 poster bed was very comfy with crisp sheets. We bought logs for the fire and sat outside on our terrace enjoying the clear view of the milky way. This isn't 5* luxury but given its remoteness and the steep drive up, it is surprisingly good, and of course it is very close to the amazing Balcony walk. I would happily go again.

It will be lovely when the swimming pool is completed. The hot water tank in the bathroom was too small to fill the small multilevel bath but was fine for showers.

Very quiet

We booked a tent, but got a bungalow which was very comfortable and made of natural materials. Nice terrace too. Dinner and breakfast buffet is alright, but nothing special. Wadi Ghul canyon is just 5 kms down the road. You can make easy walks in the surroundings. Very quiet.

Only reachable by 4WD, which wasn't stated in the description on Booking. You can park your car at the end of the paved road and a local will take you the resort in a 4WD for 40 OMR return.

Located near some wonderful viewpoints for Jebel Shams.

Located near some wonderful viewpoints for Jebel Shams. We stayed in one of the sultan tents. We were pleasantly surprised, because tents were cuter and more pleasant in real life than in the pictures on booking.com. I was worried that the tent might not be that comfortable in terms of heat in September, but the AC was strong enough to keep us quite comfy, the bed was very comfortable as well, and the bathroom was surprisingly nice for the back of a tent. We had dinner and breakfast at the resort as part of our stay, and they were both pretty good meals.

Unfortunately, the pool/spa is closed for renovations currently.

Picture perfect resort

Sama heights is perfectly located for the balcony walk. It is also one of the prettiest ‘resorts’ we have visited in our 2 week round trip through Oman. The variety of houses, bungalows and tents make it a very diverse resort. All accommodations look very well maintained.

We went to Sama heights as we wanted to do the balcony walk. In September Oman is still extremely hot so we hoped to move out early, between 05:00 and 06:00. Unfortuntely breakfast starts at 07:00 which is not ideal for dodging the sun. Assuming we’re not the only ones picking this location for hiking it would be nice if something is arranged for the early birds.

Basic resort, overcharged and emails ignored

Rooms were clean and tidy.

Basic resort Public area resembled a building site. No where to wander for an evening stroll. Water in the bathrooms was not clear and a brown sludge was left after showering and in the sink. No WiFi. TV didn’t work. When total price inc taxes in booking confirmation was 36 OMR. Of course you can’t access email as there is no WiFi to check that the amount was correct. However I was charged 45 OMR and despite several emails, only one of which was was answered acknowledging receipt, all others went unanswered. This company lacks any form of customer service based on my experience.

Not recommended resort, unless there is an improvement in management and services.

The starts at night

Almost everything, first of all very poor food services, the chicken for the lunch wasn’t ready at all, the rice were used very poor quality, overall the food was totally horrible, they should definitely improve the food and change the chief. Furthermore, there is no any security system in the resort, yesterday around 1:00 Am until 4 am a bunch of drunk people they’re fighting a lot, physically attachment, mainly room number ST-6 and ST-7 “ Sultan, and everyone in the camp they were frightened and anxious about the whole thing! Where is the security? The fight all started because drunk people from room ST-6 they turned out-loud music! The management is trash.

Unfinished and incomplete. Friendly and helpful staff, but otherwise disappointing.

The staff were very helpful and went out of their way to support us, including to organize special breakfast and a room upgrade, which was great. The food was also quite good.

The resort is still an active construction site, and has not yet developed a cozy or welcoming feel. This was disappointing, as the physical infrastructure was incomplete. There were also many, many mosquitos, including in the rooms. The resort shows signs of being a nice place to stay eventually, but for now it felt overpriced for what we received. Though the rooms are ready, they still felt somewhat unfinished with some questionable design choices - no closet in the luxury room, for example, and the tap in the bathroom was hard to operate because a shelf had been installed directly above it. The staff were doing their best, but even so this place is hard to recommend in its present state.

Hill inside the resort

There is a small foothill which is situated very near the resort which can be easily climbed. The staff was very courteous enough to let us have some of the pomegranate fruits in the property.

The Arabic tent may not be a good option if there's rain.
